December 2023 Virtual Lunch Meeting
The AWMA-CNY Chapter will host our next monthly meeting with a virtual lunch meeting scheduled for Thursday, December 21, 2023. Dr. Ian Ross, Global PFAS Practice Leader at CDM Smith, will present “Solutions to Emerging Issues with PFAS: Vision, Initiatives and Paradigm Shift. Dr. Ross will discuss the types of PFAS used in firefighting foam and the use of multiple types of non-target analyses (NTA) for more comprehensive detection of PFAS. The fate and transport of PFAS in the context of precursors as ongoing sources of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) or as mobile PFAS as well as the tendency for fluorosurfactants used in fluorinated firefighting foams, such as AFFF, FP and FFFP to form supramolecular assemblies will be described. Finally, the implications of supramolecular assemblies on fire suppression system decontamination and PFAS fate and transport will be described.
PDHs may be available for attending this presentation. Once this is determined, participants will be notified.
